Saw snippets of the 2011 SPWF on TV (thought it was on the CBS Sunday Morning – Charles Osgood) and was blown away by the incredible attention to detail and herculean efforts put into creating some of the costumes, excelsior!
Truly looking forward to attending the 2012 event in nearby Piscataway. But, of all the places it could be held, New Joysee? Who knew this was Steampunk central? Reminds me of the EARLY days (1970′s) of Comicon (NYC) and NY Renaissance Fairs (1980′s Tuxedo Park).
Sorry for the late reply on my part – I’m really glad you liked it, and we’re glad to have you!
…as for New Joysee, well, as a proud New Jerseyan, I…wait, is there any such thing as a proud New Jerseyan?
I wasn’t around for the Comicons of the 1970s or the early NYRF – I’d love to hear more about what they were like.
This will be my first year attending any Steampunk soiree. My imagination is peaked, and I am delighted with the opportunity to dive into the culture. Alas, I am extremely saddenned to admit I will not have proper attire for such event. I hope I will not be ridiculed.
You absolutely will not at all be ridiculed! We are a very open and welcoming event, and we very specifically want EVERYONE to have fun, regardless of how they’re dressed or whether they’re an experienced veteran or a curious new person. Also, as the person running the event – while most of our staff and volunteers do have lots of grand Steampunk garb, I intentionally wear slacks and a t-shirt, the idea being that nobody can criticize people for “not being steampunk enough” if I’m wearing fairly normal clothes.
How did you hear about us?
I’ve always found the idea’s and ideals very interesting. My partner and I have always wanted to attend a gathering, but have never made the time. This is the year we make the time!
